Project Proposal Presentation:

Phase 1 of the project, the project proposal, was a deep dive into establishing a strong foundation for the initiative. This involved comprehensive research to understand the current landscape of consumer behavior regarding product disposability versus repairability. The research work began with a literature review of existing studies on environmental impact, consumerism, and the circular economy to frame the problem space accurately.

A key part of this phase was the exploration of existing repair and replacement markets. This included analyzing the economic factors that influence consumer decisions to replace items rather than repair them. Market research was conducted to understand the competitive landscape, identify gaps in the current market offerings, and spot opportunities for innovation.

Simultaneously, an assessment of technological feasibilities, particularly in the realms of AI and 3D printing, was carried out to ensure the proposed solution was grounded in practicality. This included looking into the current state of these technologies, their accessibility, and potential for integration into a consumer-friendly service.

Engagement with stakeholders was initiated to gather qualitative insights, which involved interviewing consumers to understand their attitudes towards repair and sustainability, as well as discussing with experts in 3D printing and AI to gauge the technical viability of the proposed solution.

Lastly, the first phase involved setting clear objectives and outcomes for the project, defining success metrics, and planning the project’s trajectory in alignment with OCAD University’s standards for design excellence and innovation. This groundwork was crucial to move forward with a clear vision and structured approach for the subsequent phases of the project.
